Aynor High School evacuated during concert


Parents and students were evacuated from Aynor High School Tuesday night during a middle school chorus concert.

Several viewers reached out saying there were some people there who were visibly ill and being treated by EMS.

Horry County Spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier said she believes someone sprayed pepper spray into the crowd. The auditorium holds up to 300 or 400 people.

Horry County Police and Fire are on scene ventilating the building and testing the building. A wrestling match in another part of the building was not affected by the incident.

Aynor High School released the following statement on their Facebook page:

At approximately 7 p.m. this evening during Aynor Middle School’s choral production at AHS, it is believed that someone may have released pepper spray in the auditorium. The auditorium was evacuated and Horry County Fire Rescue and the Aynor Police Department responded. The situation has been deemed safe, and the incident is under investigation. The Middle School Chorus was utilizing the High School Auditorium for their production.

According to Horry County Fire Rescue, several units and a hazmat team responded to the scene. They say three people were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Crews cleared the scene, and the facility was cleared, according to HCFR.

School resumed under normal operations Wednesday morning.
