Another change coming for parking in downtown Myrtle Beach

(City of Myrtle Beach)

People who regularly park in the Pavilion Parking Garage in downtown Myrtle Beach might be in for a shock soon.

For several years now, the owners of the garage have allowed city residents’ vehicles with parking decals to park free, except for special events, but that is coming to an end.

Later this month, the parking garage will install a new automated entry and exit system, according to the city.

"That system will not have the ability to recognize vehicles with the city parking decals, so city residents will have to pay to park at the Pavilion Parking Garage."

The change is expected to begin on May 29.

The city stated that: "The parking garage is not required to provide free parking for cars with decals, but was doing so as a courtesy."
