Coroner identifies man killed in shooting at Socastee-area car wash

One person is dead after a shooting at the Bay Road Car Wash in the Socastee area on Thursday.

The victim was identified as Tyshawn Smalls, 21, of Myrtle Beach, according to Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard. He was taken to an area hospital at 2:45 p.m. Thursday and died from injuries.

A police report lists the incident type as murder and nonnegligent manslaughter.

According to a police report, officers responded at around 1:50 p.m. to the car wash located on 5609 Bay Road, off Highway 707.

Witnesses told police they saw two sedans sitting in the parking lot of the car wash before hearing gunshots. Both vehicles then left the area.

The victim was found by officers at a nearby Sonic Drive-In location before being taken to a hospital. The victim had been driven by an acquaintance.

Law enforcement vehicles were seen at both locations.

Police are now looking for the pictured vehicle and an unknown male suspect.

There are no further details to release at this time.
