Conway man dead in apparent road rage shooting in Florence Co.

FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — One person is dead following an apparent road rage incident Monday afternoon on Old Marion Highway at East Palmetto Street in Florence, according to Florence County Chief Deputy Glen Kirby.

Kirby says the deceased, a Conway resident, has died. The deceased has been identified as 56-year-old Charles Everett Williams, Jr.

The shooter is reportedly from Tennessee.

The Florence County Sheriff's Office says the driver of a logging truck got out of his vehicle and threatened the driver of a passenger car with a weapon; the driver of the passenger vehicle shot the driver of the logging truck, who later succumbed to his injuries.

Community members said several deputies on scene and appear to be gathering evidence from the road and talking with possible witnesses.

The identity of the deceased will be released pending the notification of next of kin.
