Corrections officer arrested for sexual assault, inappropriately touching trainees
BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) - South Carolina Department of Corrections Officer Ronnie Evans has been arrested for assault and battery after inappropriately touching and making sexual comments to trainees, according to a police report.
The incidents occurred while at the Evans Correctional Institution in Marlboro County.
An arrest warrant alleges that on March 28, Evans placed his hand on a female victim’s private area and squeezed it, licked his finger and made a comment about the victim’s younger age.
The sexual assault did not stop after that, according to reports.
The next day, March 29, Evans grabbed the victim’s buttocks and attempted to blame it on an inmate, according to a police report.
That same day, Evans “pressed his body against the victim’s chest and buttocks several times,” the police report states.
“Evans was in-trusted (sic) with providing the victim with training and guidance,” the police report states.
Evans was arrested May 31 and charged with:
- Misconduct in office
- Two counts, assault and battery second degree
He had been a corrections officer since June 17, 2016, according to the department of corrections.
