March 2021 COVID-19 stats for South Carolina
WPDE — As the world continues to grapple with the coronavirus pandemic, this is a place South Carolinians can come for a snapshot of daily stats for the month of March 2021, as released by the South Carolina Dept. of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC).
ABC15 will update new case counts and deaths each day during the month of March 2021 on this page.

As stated in December 2020, DHEC's daily reports are given on a two-day delay.
On Jan. 28, DHEC reported 226 new COVID-19 deaths as a result of a backlog error. DHEC released the following statement:
A system upgrade with DHEC’s Office of Vital Statistics has led to delays in deaths being reported in a timely fashion by coroners and other medical certifiers who confirm and record death information in South Carolina. DHEC first announced enhancements to the Vital Statistics system in December. Although the system operated smoothly during trials with the vendor, once the system went live in early January, DHEC’s Vital Records became aware of system glitches and immediately contacted the vendor as well as users of the system to have the problems fixed as quickly as possible.

As of Feb. 28, the state has seen the lowest number of cases since Sept. 26 and the lowest number of hospitalizations since Oct. 19, according to DHEC. DHEC also said the state had a low positivity rate of 4.6% as of Feb. 28.
