Getting kids off to school in the mornings can be a struggle.

Many parents are like Jen Hirsh--she has to get her two daughters off to school before she gets to work.

"The older one is completely organized, ready to go," said Hirsh. "My younger one is a complete disaster. She's usually running out of the house forgetting something and we're usually running back in to get it."

Professional organizer Susan Lane with An Organizing Company LLC has some tips for helping calm the chaos. Her advice is to make your exit easy.

"You have to leave the house, so you have to use a door," said Lane.

She said that parents can make that door the hub for backpacks and lunchboxes.

Lane said parents can place reminder notes at eye-level on the door, but to periodically change the location of those notes so people actually pay attention to the reminders.

Another time-saving tip is to make lunch the night before while you're making dinner and store it all together in the fridge overnight.

"I think the easiest thing to do is tackle what you can when you can," said Lane.

Lane said organized chaos is fine as long as kids know where the items are when they need them.
