Citadel cadet charged with DUI after fatal downtown crash involving pedestrian

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - A Citadel cadet is facing a DUI charge after a deadly collision involving a pedestrian, Charleston Police say.

According to officials, around 10:20 p.m. on Sunday, an adult pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in front of 685 King Street.

Authorities said the victim was transported to MUSC where they later succumbed to their injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Anthony Troiani, has been charged with felony DUI.

On Monday morning, The Citadel confirmed that Troiani is a cadet at the college and released a statement shortly thereafter:

"The Citadel is saddened to learn of the collision on Sunday that resulted in the death of a person in our Charleston community. We send our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the person who perished in this unfortunate incident which is under investigation."

Deputies say the victim was a 23-year-old woman. 

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased at a later time.
