Tornado Watch In Effect
Thu, 28 Apr 2011 10:24:12 GMT —
A TORNADO WATCH has been issued for the entire area until 4pm. A tornado watch means that conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes.
The impact of the storm is already being felt in the Pee Dee. There have been reports of scattered power outages in Olanta, Scranton, Turbeville, Olanta and several areas south east of Florence. Also, of a mobile home blown off its foundation near Salem Road and Lamar Lane in Florence County.
A system with a history of producing severe weather will be moving through the area today. While this system is much weaker than it has been over the past 2 days when it was producing a major outbreak of tornadoes, it will bring the chance for severe storms to the area. Click on the link for the latest thinking and timing expected with this system for your area. There is still a slight risk for severe storms so stay tuned and make sure you are signed up for Alert 15 and 15 Weather Call if you haven't done so yet. If you are a fan of NewsChannel 15 on Facebook, make sure you "Like" the county weather alert where you live so any watch or warning that is issued gets posted directly to your facebook page. The main threats appear to be damaging winds over 60mph and large hail. Even though the tornado threat is low, the threat is not zero.
Stay tuned to NewsChannel 15 and CarolinaLive.com throughout the day as your First Alert Weather Team will continue to bring you the latest watches and warnings that get issued.
