An approaching cold front will move into the Eastern Carolinas this afternoon. This will help to destabilize the atmosphere and increase the chance for a few strong to severe storms to develop across the area. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of severe storms across part of our area.
The main area of severe storms possible will be across the Pee Dee and Borderbelt, but any storm that does develop may be strong. The primary threat will be damaging wind gusts over 58mph, but large hail will also be possible.
The threat for tornadoes is very low, but not zero. With any storm, expect intense lightning and heavy rain.
Some areas will see a lot of rain over a very short time period. This will increase the risk of localized flooding as well as ponding on the roadways.
