Possible tornado touched down in Horry County

A strong storm pushed through Horry County Saturday afternoon.

There are reports a tornado touched down in the Socastee area around 4:20 p.m.

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service will survey the area Sunday and will confirm whether or not the funnel cloud witnesses saw was in fact a tornado.

Peter Brotherton, a resident in the Cameron Village neighborhood, said he witnessed a possible tornado touch down in his backyard.

"All I could hear was just the wind. I look out front and our front tree was bent over, and then all of a sudden, the house started shaking. And then I just saw siding and furniture flying across the pond," Brotherton said.

He said the damage could have been a lot worse.

"Half our siding is gone, we had some stuff on the outside. Whether it's in our back pond or it's somewhere else, we don't know yet. We had some screen damage, my next-door-neighbor had a lot of screen damage done," Brotherton said.
