National Weather Service confirms tornado in Florence

The National Weather Service has confirmed a n EF-1 tornado on the Enhanced Fujita Scale hit Florence Tuesday night around 7:30 p.m.

It appears to have touched down near the Armory, near Florence Memorial Stadium, just south of Highway 76.

The American Red Cross has assisted 42 individuals who were displaced by the tornado.

Residents were allowed back into the Rosewood Mobile Home Park in Florence County this morning to see the damage to their homes.

Tameka Holmes is one of those who lost everything. She just moved there recently with her two sons. She was able to save some clothing, but all her major appliances were destroyed. She was very emotional as she described how the damage is a setback for her. She said she's been homeless before, and she survived. She says her faith will pull her through.

Today is Breonna Sam's 21st birthday. She spent the morning staring at her mobile home, which had another home on top of it. Even though she lost everything she says she's worked so hard for, she's thankful to be alive.

Florence County's emergency preparedness team is on site helping residents and trying to estimate the damage.

The NWS was in Socastee last weekend, after two tornadoes touched down in Horry County.
