At 12:00 a.m. Saturday, the entire state of South Carolina will be under a Red Flag Fire Weather Alert, according to the South Carolina Forestry Commission.
Weather conditions expected to include wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour in some parts of the state Saturday, combined with low relative humidity and warm temperatures, will contribute to an elevated fire danger level according to the SCFC.
Red Flag advisories do not outlaw burning debris in most unincorporated areas, but the advisories strongly encourage people to postpone burning, according to the commission.
The Forestry Commission states they issue Red Flags when weather conditions support the spread of fire, outdoor activities are expected to rise (i.e. warm weekends), and allocation of agency resources is strained.
The alert remains in effect until lifted by the South Carolina Forestry Commission.
