Bitter cold to last all week
Now that the cold air is here, it's not going anywhere anytime soon.
In fact, records will easily be shattered in Florence and Myrtle Beach early Tuesday morning with temperatures in the low to mid-teens. To make matters worse, there will be enough of a wind stirring to send wind chills into the low single digits.
A storm system that will likely bring wintry precipitation to parts of the area Wednesday will keep the cold in place. As it intensifies and moves away Thursday, it will pull more cold air from Canada into the Carolinas. It's likely temperatures through Saturday won't get out of the 30s and low temperatures will fall into the teens and 20s.
With such a long stretch of frigid air, please remember to protect your exposed pipes, check on the elderly and bring pets inside.
The arctic chill looks to finally relax by Sunday and Monday with temperatures in the 40s and 50s, respectively.
