South Carolina stuns #18 Tennessee 24-21 in Columbia
The South Carolina Gamecocks upset the 18th ranked Tennessee Volunteers 24-21 on Saturday night at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia.
Rico Dowdle rushed 27 times for 127 yards, and scored the Gamecocks first touchdown.
Tennessee tied it up, but early in the second quarter, freshman quarterback Jake Bentley threw a 17-yard TD pass to Bryan Edwards out of Conway High to give South Carolina the lead for good at 14-7.
South Carolina led 17-14 following an Evan Berry 100 yard kickoff return for Tennessee. But Bentley threw a final TD pass to K.C. Crosby, and the Gamecocks held on to win their fourth game this season.
Edwards, the reigning ABC 15 Zoneman winner, caught four passes for 41 yards and a score.
Jamarcus King intercepted two passes for South Carolina, including a pick late in the fourth quarter that helped ice the game.
Tennessee kicker Aaron Medley missed a 58-yard field goal that would have tied the game in the final seconds.
It is South Carolina's first win over a ranked opponent since 2009 when they beat Clemson.
The Gamecocks are now 4-4 overall, 2-4 in the SEC.
South Carolina will host the Missouri Tigers next Saturday, Nov. 5 at 4 p.m.
