Hartsville point guard and 2013 WPDE Mister Hoop Zone Jaylen Shaw is staying in the Palmetto State. Shaw has given a verbal commitment to play for Frank Martin and the South Carolina Gamecocks. Gamecock Central was the first to report the commitment. Shaw saw his recruiting stock soar through the roof after guiding Hartsville to a second consecutive 3A state championship. After winning WPDE's Mister Hoop Zone award, Shaw went on to gain MVP honors at a pair of all-star games. Shaw had 23 points to lead the South Carolina All-Stars over North Carolina in overtime in the Carolinas All-Star Classic in Myrtle Beach. He followed that with a 36 point performance in a state all-star game in Columbia the following weekend.
In the fall, Jaylen made a verbal commitment to play in the Big South Conference for the High Point Panthers, but backed out of that verbal pledge when bigger programs started to show serious interest. Tulane and Virginia Tech made offers, followed by South Carolina and Clemson.
