South Carolina redshirt freshman defensive back Victor Hampton has been dismissed from the Gamecocks football program. Hampton said he was kicked off the team on his Twitter account and the University confirmed it. Hampton also said on Twitter that he is considering a transfer to Grambling.
Hampton played just one year at Darlington High School transferring from Independence High in Charlotte. He was an original commitment to the University of Florida, but his recruiting was reopened when he left Independence for Darlington. He was named a US Army All-American and made his commitment to the Gamecocks at the All-Star game in San Antonio. He was named to WPDE's All-Zone team in 2009. Shortly after his signing, Hampton was arrested for possession of alcohol on school grounds, but those charges were later dropped.
Hampton never took the field for South Carolina, but was listed as a second team defensive back on the 2011 post-spring depth chart.
