Gamecocks to the Outback Bowl

South Carolina will play Michigan in the Outback Bowl on New Year's Day.

No. 11 South Carolina (10-2) will play No. 19 Michigan (8-4) in the Outback Bowl at 1 p.m. January 1 in Tampa, Florida. ESPN will televise the game. The Gamecocks will make their fourth appearance in the Outback Bowl. South Carolina is 2-1 in previous Outback appearances. They beat Ohio State in 2001 and 2002, and lost to Iowa 31-14 in 2009. Michigan had a 6-2 record in the Big Ten this season. The Wolverines only conference losses were to Nebraska and Ohio State. The other two losses were against #1 Notre Dame and #2 Alabama. The game will mark the first time in Steve Spurrier's coaching career that he will face the Michigan Wolverines as a head coach. It will be the third career meeting between the schools. South Carolina beat Michigan 17-14 in Ann Arbor in 1980. Michigan beat South Carolina in Columbia 34-3 in 1985. All of the FBS Bowl matchups have been announced.
