Gamecocks Carson may be out for the season
South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier says freshman running back Shon Carson out of Lake City High may miss the remainder of the football season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Spurrier said, "He's going to be out for a while." This is a serious knee injury that will likely require surgery.
Carson had only one carry in the Gamecocks 45-42 win over Georgia on Saturday. But he came up limping after the play and left the field on crutches. When he left the field, Carson walked freely, waving the crutches to the fans. The 2010 WPDE Zoneman winner has played in both of South Carolina's games this season. He has just three carries for nine yards.
The Gamecocks (2-0) moved up one spot in the latest Associated Press and USA Today/Coaches football polls to #12. South Carolina will hold a 7 p.m. practice Monday night as they begin preparations for their home opener against Navy (2-0) on Saturday, September 17 at Williams-Brice Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
