Pelicans win, Gallo hits two more homers to lead pro baseball

Joey Gallo drove in seven runs on Friday night in the Pelicans 12-6 win over the Mudcats.

Myrtle Beach slugger Joey Gallo hit two home runs to lead the Pelicans past the Carolina Mudcats 12-6 on Friday night at Pelicans Ballpark in Myrtle Beach.

Gallo hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning to tie the game 6-6. He followed with a grand slam in the seventh inning as part of a five run frame.

Gallo's seven RBI in a single game tied the Pelicans franchise record shared by Zach Zaneski and Tyler Flowers.

Gallo has hit 20 home runs this season to lead all of professional baseball.

Following their sixth straigh win, Myrtle Beach now has a record of 35-17, best in the Carolina League. They lead the Southern Division by 8.5 games over second place Salem.

The Pelicans will play the second game of the four game series against the Mudcats on Saturday at 7 p.m.
