Pelicans win 2nd half Carolina League division title

Myrtle Beach infielder Luis Mendez stroked a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning in a 3-2 victory over the Lynchburg Hillcats, on the final day of the regular season in the Carolina League. The win clinched the Southern Division second half championship for Myrtle Beach.

A crowd of 3,301 watched as Mendez ripped a double to center field to bring home Nick Vickerson with the game-winner.

Myrtle Beach will now play the defending Southern League champion Salem Red Sox in a best-of-three series beginning on Wednesday night at 7:05 at Pelicans Ballpark.

The Pelicans finished the second half of the season with a 38-32 record. They finished with the league's best regular season record with a 82-56 slate.
