Former Carolina Forest hoops star signs pro contract

Alston ranks fourth all-time in scoring in Charleston Southern women's basketball history.

Three-time WPDE All-Hoop Zone selection LaKeitha Alston has signed a women's professional basketball contract to play for an Italian team in Malta.

Alston will compete in a league called the Luxol Women's Basketball Club.

She is the all-time leading scorer at Carolina Forest High, and was a WPDE Miss Hoop Zone Finalist. At Charleston Southern, she finished her career as the fourth all-time leading scorer, and fifth all-time leading rebounder for the Lady Buccaneers.

Alston was a graduate assistant coach at Abilene Christian last season. Her long term goal is to become a college basketball head coach. She has put those plans on hold to play pro ball in Italy.

Alston's mother, Dee Dee said, "We're definately excited, she's worked hard for this opportunity. It's great to see her get to play the sport she loves, and get to see the world."
