Lorenzo Taliaferro ran for 205 yards and three scores and the Coastal Carolina offense tops the 50 point mark for the third striaght week in a 53-28 win at Elon on Saturday. The 11th ranked Chanticleers could move into the top 10 of the FCS polls after getting to the 5-0 mark for the first time in the program's history.
The first half was a back and forth affair starting with Taliaferro's 24 yard TD run to open the scoring. Elon would take a 14-13 lead in the first quarer on a Mike Quinn touchdown pass to Rasuan Rorie, but the Chanticleers closed out the first quarter with its third consecutive 75 yard drive. Alex Ross had a 1 yard TD run to put the Chants in front 19-14 at the end of the first quarter. Elon looked to have the momentum heading into halftime after a Ross interception and a Quinn scoring pass to Zach Duprey gave the Phoenix a 28-25 lead with 3:59 to go. But Ross connected with Tyrell Blanks on a 40 yard score with :28 seconds remaining in the half to put CCU up 32-28 at the intermission.
Coastal blanked the Phoenix 21-0 in the second half with DeMario Bennett catching a TD pass and TD runs from DeAngelo Henderson and Taliaferro. Ross was 22 of 29 for 297 yards and 3 TD's. Bennett had 5 catches for 78 yards and a score with Blanks grabbing four balls for 76 yards and a touchdown. The Chanticleers racked up a staggering 652 yards of offense - 355 on the ground and 297 through the air.
The Chanticleers have next week off and begin Big South play on October 12th when they host Gardner-Webb
