East Clarendon girls win first state basketball championship

The East Clarendon Wolverines girls basketball team beat the Timmonsville Whirlwinds 55-31 to win the Class A State basketball championship.

Eighth-grader Talaysia Cooper scored 18 points, and Gracen Watts added 13 to lead East Clarendon to victory.

East Clarendon (19-5) led wire-to-wire and scored the first 21 points of the contest.

This marked the first girls basketball state championship in school history.
