Clemson beats Alabama to win national title, Renfrow snags game winning TD
Socastee High grad Hunter Renfrow caught the game winning touchdown pass from Deshaun Watson with :01 left on the clock as Clemson beat Alabama 35-31 to win the College Football Playoff National Championship.
Renfrow caught ten passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns.
Watson was 36-of-56 passing for 420 yards and three TD tosses. He also ran for a score.
Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts appeared to give the Crimson Tide the win when he scored on a 30-yard touchdown run with 2:07 left in the game to put Alabama ahead 31-28.
Clemson answered with a nine play 68 yard drive that ended with Renfrow's heroic one yard TD grab to seal the national championship for the Tigers.
It is the second football national championship for Clemson. The Tigers last won the title in 1981.
It was the first time Clemson had beaten Alabama since 1905.
The Tigers stopped Alabama's 26-game winning streak, and beat a number one ranked team for the first time in Clemson history.
