WPDE End Zone Preview: Darlington at Carolina Forest

The 2014 WPDE End Zone begins at 11:20 p.m. on Friday, August 22nd on NewsChannel 15.

The Academy Sports and Outdoors Game of the Week on WPDE NewsChannel 15's End Zone is the Darlington Falcons at the Carolina Forest Panthers.

Carolina Forest is coming off a 1-10 season. Marc Morris is the Panthers new head coach. He will try to move the program in a new direction.

Last season, the Panthers defense gave up more than 50 points a contest. Improving the defense will be a top priority for coach Morris.

Darlington's 3-5 defense returns seven starters. The Black Storm defense is led by experienced linebackers, including Antonio Hannah.

This game could turn into a shootout. The Carolina Forest offense is led by WPDE All-Zone quarterback Will Brunson, who threw for nearly 3,000 yards and 28 scores last season.

Michael Culbreath is expected to give the Panthers a solid running game. That would make Brunson's arm even more dangerous.

Darlington signal caller Shakeem Thomas is a dual threat quarterback. He has one of the best receivers in the state in WPDE All-Zoner Tra'Quan Dubose.

In the Falcons backfield, Trayvon Thomas, who ran for 1,001 yards last season, is one of several runners who give the Darlington offense great balance.

Darlington finished last season with a 6-5 record. The Class AAA school is expected to give Class AAAA Carolina Forest a big challenge on Week Zero. Winner of this game will appear live in the WPDE End Zone on Friday at 11:20 p.m.
