Waccamaw takes commanding lead in WPDE Zone Cup

WPDE's Zone Cup shines the spotlight on every varsity high school sport. Defending champion Waccamaw had a stellar fall sports campaign to race out to a commanding lead for the 2013 WPDE Zone Cup. Points are awarded based on post-season performance in every varsity sport. Waccamaw had six sports that finished in the state semifinals or placed in the top 4 in the state.

Waccamaw's Fall Dominance

Girls AA Cross Country - 2nd place - 75 points

Boys AA Cross Country - 2nd place - 50 poitns

Competitive Cheer - 3rd place - 50 points

Boys AA Swimming - 4th place - 50 points

Girls AA Tennis - state semifinals - 50 points

Girls AA Volleyball - state semifinals - 50 points

Socastee stands in second place thanks to 3rd place efforts by the boys swimming and cross country teams along with the football team reaching the class 3A quarterfinals. Hartsville (football) and North Myrtle Beach (volleyball) are in the top 5 thanks to getting 100 points for winning state championships.

1. Waccamaw - 345 points

2. Socastee - 165 points

3. Hartsville - 135 points

4. North Myrtle Beach - 130 points

5. Johnsonville - 125 points
