Waccamaw maintains Zone Cup lead

The Waccamaw Warriors continue to pace the field in the 2013 WPDE Zone Cup, awarded to the high school with the best overall performance in varsity sports. The Warriors picked up 35 points in the winter sports season headlined by a quarterfinal appearance in wrestling.

Hartsville has moved into second place after winning the 3A state championship in boys basketball. The Red Foxes overtime triumph over Eastside earned the school 100 points. Socastee is in third place after gaining 75 points in the winter courtesy of a state semifinal berth in wrestling and a quarterfinal appearance by the Lady Braves basketball squad. Hemingway vaulted into the top 10 with an 8th place spot thanks to a 1A girls basketball state championship.

The Zone Cup will be decided following the spring sports season. Waccamaw has won five of the last eight WPDE Zone Cups including last year.
