Timmonsville falls short in state title game

Jarius Jenkins ran for 213 yards and 4 TD's to give Hunter-Kinard-Tyler the Class 1A Division II state championship with a 26-8 win over Timmonsville on Friday afternoon at Benedict College in Columbia. HKT used an interception on the opening drive to get Jenkins in the end zone from a yard out for the first score of the game. Jenkins would add TD's of 17 yards and 4 TD's to give his team a 20-0 lead at the half.

Timmsonville got on the board with a 1 yard TD run by Tyquez Young early in the 4th quarter and threatened to make it a one possession game, but the Whirlwinds were stopped inside the ten yard line. Timmonsville was plagued by five turnovers and Jenkins closed out the scoring with his fourth TD of the game.

Timmsonville ends the season with a 7-7 record, reaching the state title game after starting the season 0-4. Bill Tate coached in his seventh career state title game for Timmonsville - he's now 2-5 lifetime in championship games.
