Surf and Turf to showcase high school football in Myrtle Beach

The Grand Strand is about to get a high school football showcase to open each season. The Surf and Turf Kickoff Classic will debut in 2012 with Myrtle Beach and Conway facing in-state powers. The 2013 Surf and Turf will feature South Carolina schools going head to head against North Carolina foes.

2012 Surf and Turf Matchups

Saturday, August 25th at Doug Shaw Stadium

5pm: Northwestern. vs. Conway

8pm: Irmo vs. Myrtle Beach

The 2013 Surf and Turf will begin on Friday August 23rd with Myrtle Beach taking on the Richmond County Raiders. Following that, three games will be played on Saturday, August 24th with South Carolina/North Carolina matchups. Conway, Irmo and Northwestern are committed to play in the 2013 event with North Carolina opponents still being negotiated. The event hopes to grow to the point that national television shows an interest in airing the games.

The event is being organized by 151 Sports Marketing out of Southlake, Texas. Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes is optimistic that the Surf and Turf will have an economic impact in the millions to the Grand Strand area.
