St. James takes 3rd at Girls State Golf Championships

Hartsville's Eden Howard was all smiles after shooting a score of par 72.

Pickens High shot a team score of 660 and won the Class 3A Girls State Golf Championship at Black Bear Golf Club in Longs on Tuesday. The St. James Sharks finished third, with the low score among local teams. The Sharks team shot a 683 during the 36-hole event.

Smith Knaffle, who is still in middle school, played for St. James had an amazing performance for the Sharks. The seventh grader finished sixth in the individual competition.

Cayla Smith from Wren was the 3A Champion shooting rounds of 70 and 71, a 3-under par performance over the two days.

Hartsville's Eden Howard, who will sign with Coastal Carolina next month, shot rounds of 78 and 72. Howard finished in fourth place.
