St. James Sharks win tournament championship

      Sharks pitcher Robert Troiano was named tournament MVP

      The Saint James Sharks beat the Blythewood Bengals 10-7 to win the International Paper Classic baseball tournament at Mike Johnson Park in Georgetown on Saturday. Gunnar Heidt made a run-saving catch in the first inning and hit a solo homer in the bottom of the frame to get the Sharks out to a 2-0 lead.

      Blythewood rallied for four runs in the third inning, but St. James countered with seven in the bottom of the inning. Robert Troiano struck out five and got the win for the Sharks. Troiano was named tournament MVP playing both pitcher and catcher during the tournament. He also made the all-tournament team along with teammates Anthony Cossentino and Gunnar Kines. Sharks senior Logan Howard made the all-academic team.

      Saint James scored tournament wins over Georgetown, Brookland-Cayce, Belton-Honea Path and Blythewood to open the season with a 4-0 record.
