Socastee's Renfrow steps down to return to AD duties

Socastee High is looking for a new varsity football coach as head coach Tim Renfrow returns to his duties as the Braves athletic director. Renfrow was athletic director at Socastee from 1998-2003 before choosing to return to the sidelines as a football coach. He was 59-53 in 10 seasons, higlighted by a 12-1 campaign in 2012 which saw the Braves reach the 3A quarterfinals. "It's good having him there (in the athletic director slot)," Socastee principal Dr. Paul Browning said. "With him being AD before, it's going to be a smooth transition for us. It shows tremendous commitment on his part to Socastee High School and we really appreciate that."

Renfrow replaces David Bennett who is the new athletic director and head football coach at River Bluff High School in Lexington. Bennett's last day as Socastee athletic director will be April 8th. Renfrow will fill in for the remainder of the school year, before officially taking the athletic director title in July. Socastee now begins the search for a new head football coach. The Braves bring back a number of key pieces from its 12-1 team, most notably Renfrow's son, Hunter, the 2012 WPDE Zoneman winner.
