Socastee wins shootout over West Brunswick

Socastee's Tommy Lazaroff scores to put the Braves ahead to stay against West Brunswick.

The Socastee Braves defeated the West Brunswick Trojans 35-28 in Shallotte, North Carolina on Saturday afternoon. Hunter Renfrow threw for one TD and ran for another to help Socastee improve to a 2-0 record.

Austin Stanley started the scoring with a 40-yard TD run on the Braves opening drive. West Brunswick countered with a 75-yard TD run by Markell Jones. Renfrow scored on a four yard keeper to put Socastee back in front 14-7. Jones scored the equalizer on a 5-yard run to the zone. Socastee took the lead for good late in the first half. Renfrow threw a 45 yard TD pass to Tommy Lazaroff to make it 21-14 Braves.

Socastee running back Daquon Brown led the Braves ground attack with 12 carries for 125 yards and two touchdowns. The Braves rolled up 308 yards rushing and 90 passing against the West Brunswick defense.

Socastee (2-0) will play host to the Lake City Panthers (0-1) next Friday night.
