Nine area high school athletes honored, six sign LOI's

Five Sharks signed college letters of intent on Thursday.

Eight student-athletes from St. James High were honored on Thursday. Six of them signed college letters of intent.

Baseball star pitcher Anders DeShields signed with the College of Charleston, Running back Austin Adams signed a football agreement with Guilford College, Lyle Ciardi signed to play golf at Limestone College, Taylor Zeitler signed to become a cheerleader at Anderson College and Stephanie Hotzelt signed for cheerleading with Anderson College.

St. James wrestler De'eante Salaam, and basketball star Caleb Duggan are both leaning toward signing with Coker. The two were honored, along with track star Billy Krier, who will walk-on at Clemson this fall.

At Carvers Bay High, track star Desmond Sumpter signed with Winthrop. Sumpter plans to compete in both the long and triple jump in college. He was part of the Bears Class A Championship track team.
