Mr. and Miss Hoop Zone 2014 crowned

Mullins Alex Brown and Timmonsville's Sade Eli captured the 2014 Mister and Miss Hoop Zone Trophies as part of the 14th annual WPDE Hoop Zone Banquet at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Myrtle Beach. Eli is a two time winner of the award, while Brown joins current Coastal Carolina guard Eric Smith as Auctioneers to win Mister Hoop Zone.
Brown captured 10 first place votes and was on 14 total ballots to score 39 points, 14 better than teammate Jalek Felton. Darlington's Frankie Johnson, who guided the Falcons to the 3A state championship game, was one point behind in third place. Eli had 12 first place votes and was on 17 total ballots to win by a large margin over Dillon's Tyshanna Lester and Lake City's Shaunice Fulmore.
The Arbor One SCISA Players of the Year were Myrtle Beach Christian Academy's Austin Guyton along with Trinity-Byrnes guard Janie Fuller.
Brown was voted Region 8 Class 2A player of the year. This 6-foot-4 senior was a scoring machine with more than 21 points an outing to go along with more than 8 rebounds. He was a big reason why the Auctioneers won the region championship. Brown was All-State. Brown and Jalek Felton teamed up to become the most productive offensive duo in the Pee Dee this season as they ran away with another region championship and a deep run in the playoffs. Head Coach Mark Gerald calls Brown the best combination of an athlete, student and young man with character that he's coached in his 24 years at Mullins. In the classroom -- Alex Brown has recorded a 3-point-5 GPA.
Eli was named State Class 1A Player of the Year for a second straight year following her senior season with the Lady Whirlwinds. She led Timmonsville to a state championship as a sophomore. With Eli in charge on the court -- Timmonsville made it to the state semi-finals the past two seasons. She averaged nearly 20 points a game this year with almost 9 rebounds and over five assists a game. Timmonsville is one of the most winningest high school basketball players in the state over the past five years -- posting an impressive record of 93 wins and just 14 losses. Eli finished her career at Timmonsville with 2-thousand 6-hundred and 32 points. 8th most in state history.
42 boys and girls players from the Pee Dee and Grand Strand were honored as part of the 2014 WPDE Hoop Zone team. The 2014 Hoop Zone Banquet will air Sunday at 2:30 pm on NewsChannel 15.
