Mays paces HP to Monday night win

Ryan Mays had a pair of touchdowns including an 85 yard kickoff return for a score late in the first half to help Hannah-Pamplico top East Clarendon 39-28 on Monday night. The game was rescheduled due to wet weather making playing conditions unplayable on Friday night. The Wolverines got off to a tremendous start on the road as JoeShawn McElveen stripped the ball on the opening kickoff inside the five yard line and strolled into the end zone. Lorell Fleming tacked on a two point conversion to make it 8-0 right out of the gate.

HP would score on its opening drive as Terry Self cashed in from 11 yards out and Ke'Tron Belin picked up a fumble and scooped it up at the ten yard line and scored on the final play of the first quarter to give the Raiders a 14-8 lead. The Wolverines went back in front 16-14 on a Fleming one yard TD run, but HP answered back with two straight scores from Mays and Self on the ground. The final minute of the first half produced the most excitement as Fleming lofted a TD pass to Jearl Harrison to get the Wolverines within 5 at 27-22 with 33 seconds remaining. But on the ensuing kickoff, Mays found a hole and burst through for an 85 yard touchdown run to give HP a 33-22 advantage at the half.

Mays finished with 19 carries for 137 yards and a TD, while Self had 14 carries for 80 yards and two scores. Hannah-Pamplico is now 1-2 on the season, while East Clarendon drops to 0-3. The Raiders host Waccamaw on Friday night and East Clarendon is home to Camden Military.
