Lamar's Boyd hopes last playoff run lasts a while

The Lamar Silver Foxes host St. Joseph's this Friday night at Poole Stadium in a Class 1A Division I quarterfinal. Running back LaBradford Abson was presented an HTC Game Ball for his 10 carry, 227 yard, 4 TD performance in the Silver Foxes 53-6 win over Southside Christian.

It's the final season for JR Boyd, who will retire at the end of the season. Boyd coached the Silver Foxes from 1992 through 2004, followed by a three year stihnt in Laurens from 2005 through 2007. He returned to Lamar and took over the program once again in 2009. He was inducted into the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame this summer. His career is highlighted by three straight state championships from 2002 through 2004. He has coached numerous Silver Foxes to the college ranks and a pair of NFL products in John Abraham and Michael Hamlin. He says the speech he gives his seniors about every game in November possibly being their last applies to him as well.
