Lake City's Rowell steps down as athletic director

PRESS RELEASE from Lake City High:

LAKE CITY, SC -- Jim Rowell has resigned as Lake City High Schoolâ??s athletic director for personal reasons effective June 30.

Rowell, who was named athletic director in October 2010, will remain as a teacher at the school and as head coach of the varsity football team.

Rowell said a desire to spend more time with his family led to his decision to resign. â??The demands of being an athletic director were causing me to miss important time with my children,â?? Rowell said. â??Just like any other father, I want to spend as much time with them as I possibly can. My most important job is to be a good father.â??

Florence County School District Three will immediately begin a search process to select a new athletic director.

â??We appreciate the job Coach Rowell has done for our student-athletes as athletic director,â?? said Dr. V. Keith Callicutt, superintendent of Florence County School District Three. â??As a father myself, I respect his decision to spend more time with his children. We will soon begin the process of identifying candidates and hiring a new athletic director that will continue the tradition of excellence that has been built at Lake City High School.â??
