Hummel resigns as Carolina Forest football coach

Carolina Forest's Drew Hummel has resigned as varsity football coach effective immediately. The Panthers completed the 2013 regular season with a 47-12 loss to Conway on Friday night to finish 1-10. Hummel was 30-57 in eight years guiding the Panthers who transitioned from 3A to 4A football in that span.

"The last couple of years have been hard, they've been frustrating, it's been hard on me personally as a coach.," Hummel told WPDE Sports. "I feel in the best interest of our kids and our program that this is the right thing to do at the right time. love Carolina Forest high school and it's a hard thing to do. I love the community and the kids and it was hard to tell our kids that what I was going to do. The timing is right and it's the best thing to do at this time for Carolina Forest and the kids and me personally."

Hummel will remain at the high school as a teacher. The Panthers had back to back 7-4 seasons in 2010 and 2011, but failed to make the post-season. After a 2-9 campaign in 2012, the Panthers lone victory in 2013 was a come from behind 41-35 win over Myrtle Beach.
