HS Baseball: Aynor beats Marion to keep playoff hopes alive

Aynor's Marcus Rogers drove in two runs and pitched a complete game for the Blue Jackets.

The Aynor Blue Jackets defeated the Marion Swamp Foxes 8-1 on Thursday night in Aynor on the next to the last day of the regular season in high school baseball. The win moved Aynor into a virtual fourth place tie with Loris for fourth place in region 8 class 2A.

Aynor stuck three runs on the board in the first inning and never trailed. Hunter Burnette plated the Blue Jackets first run with a single to score Graham Herrington. Brandon Young later scored on a wild pitch. Ben Long capped the inning with an RBI single to score Burnette.

Marcus Rogers went the distance on the mound. He threw seven innings, struck out five and allowed just one run. Rogers also drove in two runs in the second inning.

Loris beat Mullins 17-1 on Friday. That sets up tie-breaker between Loris and Aynor on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Carolina Forest High with the winner advancing to the class 2A playoffs.
