Holiday Hoops: North Myrtle Beach makes history

Josh Lindsey led North Myrtle Beach with 19 points.

The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs have been hosting the Shootout by the Sea basketball tournament for nine years. On Saturday night in Little River, the boys team won their own tournament for the first time ever, with a 56-49 win over Summerville.

Josh Lindsey scored 19 points to lead the Chiefs. Brother Matt Lindsey chipped in with 11, and Jaquan Grissett tallied 15 points.

In the girls championship game, Goose Creek 8th grader Ericka Broughton hit an old-fashioned three point play with just 2.9 seconds left in regulation to help the Lady Gators to a 44-43 win in the Shootout by the Sea.

Taylor Allman led North Myrtle Beach with 17 points. Teammate India Farmer had 15. Goose Creek's Ashley Fields scored a game-high 23 points and was named Shootout by the Sea MVP.

In other tournament action, Archbishop Carroll (PA) rallied from 15 points down at halftime to beat King's Fork (VA) 55-48 in the CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational championship game.

Jess Carney hit six 3-point field goals to lead all scorers with 19 points. Archbishop Carroll outscored King's Fork 35-13 in the second half.
