Hartsville finishes 6th in 3A Girls Golf

The Hartsville girls golf team finished in 6th place for the best finish among five teams in the Pee Dee and Grand Strand at the Class 1A/2A/3A girls state championship at the Hackler Course on the campus of Coastal Carolina. Greenville High dominated the field to win the state championship, with Upstate teams Pickens and Daniel finishing in the top three.

The Red Foxes won the Lower State Championship and was in third place following the first day of competition. Junior Eden Howard had to withdraw midway through her second round due to a wrist injury. Howard shot a remarkable 73 on Monday playing in pain - she couldn't tie her shoes and winced through pain throughout the two days of competition. Howard was in contention for the individual state crown before her withdrawal. Cayla Smith of Wren won the individual state title shooting a 75 and making an 8 foot par putt on 18 to take the crown. It ended the reign of Strom Thurmond's McKenzie Talbert who won three consecutive individual state championships.

Saint James finished 11th in its first ever state championship appearance. Alexa Falvey was the top Shark with an 80 on Tuesday.
