Cress leads after one round at CPGA Junior Championship

Michael Leftis from Myrtle Beach is one of more than a dozen local golfers in the 160 player field.

Walker Cress from Concord, North Carolina fired a 6-under par 66 to take a three stroke lead heading to the final round of the PGA Carolinas Junior Championship at the Hackler Course on the Coastal Carolina University campus in Conway.

Three South Carolina golfers are tied for second. Summerville's Julian Keur, Greenville's Cole Patterson, and Blythewood's Patrick Talledo all shot 3-under par 69 opening rounds.

Patrick Golden from Murrells Inlet is four shots off the lead at 2-under par 70.

On in the overall girls division, Victoria Huskey from Greenville, South Carolina shot 3-under par 69. She was the only female player to break par in the first round. Huskey has a three shot lead.

Hannah Fesperman from Georgetown had the top score among local female golfers. She shot 8-over par 80.

The final round of the 36-hole event will be played on Sunday. The overall boys winner and the overall girls winner will advance to the PGA Junior National Championship, July 29 - August 1, at Miramont Country Club in Bryan/College Station, Texas.
