Justin Chapman had 32 carries for 280 yards and 4 touchdowns as Cheraw outlasted the Camden Bulldogs 51-38 on Saturday afternoon. The game was postponed due to severe weather on Friday night. Cheraw opened the scoring with a Denzelle Watson interception return for a touchdown. In the 2nd quarter, Chapman capped off a 99 yard drive with a three yard TD to make it a 14-0 Braves advantage. Chapman had 140 yards in the first half including a 42 yard run, but Cheraw's drive stalled at the 2 yard line. Watson was able to tackle Camden QB Josh Council in the end zone for a safety to give the Braves a 16-0 halftime lead.
Camden scored to open the third, but they could not slow down Chapman. On a 4th and 2 from the 49, he busted a 51 yard TD run for his third score of the game. Cheraw maintained a double digit lead for the entire second half. The two teams combined for 862 yards of total offense and 89 points. The game took three hours and thirteen minutes.
Cheraw is 1-0 and hosts Marlboro County next Friday night. Camden is 0-1 and travels to West Florence.
