Carvers Bay falls to Christ Church in 1A state championship game

Naquez Pringle accepts the runner-up trophy

Demetrius Anthony's second TD run of the second quarter proved to be the game winner as Christ Church won its third straight Class 1A Division I state championship with a 28-21 win over Carvers Bay at Benedict College. The game was a shootout for two quarters, but halftime adjustments resulted in no scoring in the final 24 minutes. Devin Cuttino had two TD runs for the Bears, highlighted by an 80 yard romp that tied the game at 21.

The Bears defense buckled down and nearly came up with a huge play when Cuttino sacked Anthony. The ball bounced around at the 10 yard line and was recovered by the offense. Christ Church missed a field goal giving the Bears a chance to get the equalizer in the fourth quarter, but Israel Davis' long pass was picked off by Taylor Carsten. Carvers Bay finishes the season with a 12-2 record. Christ Church, who beat Lamar on a last second field goal in the state semifinals, is 14-0 and now three time state champion in Class 1A Division I.
