Stephen Sampollo cleared the bases in the third inning with what proved to be the game winning hit in Carolina Forest's 4-3 win over West Florence on Tuesday night. The two Region 6/4A foes continue their three game series on Wednesday and Thursday.
The Panthers scored on an errant throw from first base to the pitcher's mound following a pickoff attempt in the second inning. Carolina Forest would load the bases in the third setting the stage for Sampollo to drive a base hit to left that went past the outfielder and rolled all the way to the wall. Ryan Flynn's head first slide made it a 4-0 Panthers lead. The Knights would get a run on a double play groundout in the fourth followed by a two run blast by Logan McRae in the 6th to get West Florence within one run. The Knights would get the potential winning run to the plate in the seventh, but Patrick Orlando ended the game with a strikeout.
West Florence drops to 9-3, 5-2 in Region 6/4A. Carolina Forest is now 6-6, 5-5 in region play.
