10 Area Players to play in Shrine Bowl

WPDE Zoneman winner Hunter Renfrow of Socastee is one of ten local athletes who will play for the South Carolina all-stars.

Ten players who were selected on WPDE's All-Zone football team will play in the 77th annual Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas on Saturday, December 21 at Gibbs Stadium in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. on the campus of Wofford College.

A pair of Dillon linebackers will play in the Shrine Bowl. Joe Blue who has verbally committed to the South Carolina Gamecocks, and Damu Ford.

Three Class 1A players were also named to the Shrine Bowl. Hemingway's Da'Quan Casey, Latta's Donell Stanley and Naquez Pringle of Carvers Bay. Pringle says his options are open as to what college he will attend. He says his top three right now are N.C. State, Central Florida and South Carolina.

Also playing in the showcase game is Socastee quarterback Hunter Renfrow. But WPDE's Zoneman winner says he will play a receiver position in the Shrine Bowl. Renfrow has yet to decide what college he will attend, "Clemson is my dream place, but we'll see."

Hartsville has two players in the Shrine Bowl. Defensive End Dequan Reddick, and defensive back Shy Phillips. Reddick is uncommitted. Phillips says he has an offer from Charleston Southern, but added that he is open to other schools.

Marlboro County's Raheem Ward will play defensive back in the Shrine Bowl. He is also a dangerous return man and wide receiver. On play in the Shrine Bowl, Ward said, "It's a good chance for the scouts to see what I can do."

West Florence kicker Alex Spence has committed to play at Clemson. Spence scored 81 points for the Knights this season. He was successful on 15-of-18 field goals with a long of 48 yards.

South Carolina leads the all-time series against North Carolina in the Shrine Bowl 42-29-4.
