WPDE Sports hosted its annual Chevy End Zone Media Day at Coastal Carolina's Adkins Fieldhouse on Thursday. All 34 teams were in attendance and over 175 of the top players from the area were on hand to get ready for the high school football season. A special thanks to SONIC in Conway and Carolina Forest for providing hamburgers and hot dogs along with drinks to the kids.
In an earlier version of this story, WPDE Sports thanked the Coastal Carolina football staff. To clarify, Chevy End Zone Media Day was hosted by WPDE Sports and the CCU football staff was not affiliated with the event in any way. WPDE apologizes for any miscommunication.
WPDE's Rich Chrampanis is the host of the Chevy End Zone and has some news and notes from the Media Day festivities:
It was great to see the big names from our area take the time to join us at Media Day. Nine of the ten players on WPDE's Zoneman Watch List were on hand highlighted by recent Division I commitments Jabril Solomon (East Carolina) and Kwinton Smith (South Carolina). We like to create an atmosphere like SEC and ACC media days and to give these kids a chance to experience what may be coming down the road when they are playing in college.
In the film room with Hags
Many of the top players went one on one with WPDE's Mark Haggard breaking down game film, drawing up some plays on the board and talking about their game. I'm excited to see all of the footage and we'll utilize it both here on CarolinaLive.com as well as in segments in our previews and our End Zone shows on Friday. If you watch the video feature, you will find my two favorites -- Hags stripping Jabril Solomon and then unsuccessfully running the 40 against Kentrez Hilton of Loris.
Two future stars on the OL
When we break down game film, it's easy to find the top returning skill position players. When it comes to line play, that's a different story. I always appreciate the coaches giving us a heads up on players to watch and we have two underclassmen offensive lineman who have garnered Division I offers. Latta's Donell Stanley (6'4", 281 lbs.) is just a rising sophomore but has an offer from the Clemson Tigers. Wilson rising junior Justin Evans has an offer from East Carolina.
End Zone Previews
We will begin our Chevy End Zone Previews on Monday, August 1st. We will publish the full schedule coming up this Monday. We will also have more content on CarolinaLive.com for each team's preview.
