2012 Saint James Sharks
2011 Record: 3-7
Offense: 19.1 ppg (25th
in Zone Nation)
Defense: 29.1 ppg (27th in Zone Nation)
Returning Starters - Offense: 5 Defense: 7
Defense was a problem area for the Sharks last year. They gave up nearly 30 tallies a contest. The Sharks bring experienced players back on defense. They're bigger and stronger than in the past. On offense, Josh Roper has one year under his belt at QB and bruising RB Austin Adams should give the Sharks a solid ground game. We will find out quickly how good St. James will be after they open the season with back-to-back home games against Loris and Andrews at the Shark Tank.
It takes time to build a program and I'm interested to see the strides the Sharks make in year two of the Mark Fischer era. In Hags preview piece, Austin Adams said that he'll make sure there won't be too much of a dropoff after Gregg Johnsen's departure. That's a strong statement and I'm going to keep a close eye on #7 to see how he fares. I agree with Hags that the first two games are an excellent barometer for the Sharks. Loris and Andrews are both playoff worthy class 2A schools - how the Sharks fare in those two contests will set the tone when things get tough in region play.
